Michael Bednar is an award-winning photographer recognized internationally for his travel and documentary work capturing the spirit of people and places. In 2007 Michael was honoured with the People Photographer of the Year award by the International Photography Awards and was a finalist for International Photographer of the Year. He has been a finalist for the Travel Photographer of the Year in 2007 & 2009. Asian Geographic magazine bestowed him with the Best Photojournalism of the Decade award. Most recently Michael was presented with the Northern Lights Award for top Canadian Travel Photography of the Year.
Born and raised in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada Michael moved west in 1989. He worked for several years in natural resource management where he embraced his love of the outdoors. He now incorporates the knowledge he gained from that work into his photography. Upon graduating from The Western Academy of Photography Michael worked in the daily newspaper business where he gained invaluable experience. Since then Michael has been freelancing, gathering and telling stories from around the globe for corporate and editorial clients.
Michael continues to explore and build a library of images from around the world focusing on landscape, wildlife and portraits that work to capture the oftenprofound relationships between people and their environment. He also teaches
photography and digital storytelling to individuals and groups. Bednar has recently made the South Cariboo his home and is now concentrating his photographic skills on producing work from this magnificent region.
